cinco de mayo

May 7, 2012

since my daughter's 1st communion was on may 5th,
we decided to celebrate with a cinco de mayo party.
it was just our immediate family so i wanted
to try and keep it low key.
i saw a few cute ideas on pinterest
and kept them in my head while decorating.
 i love these colorful layer cakes that i've been seeing everywhere.
it came out cute, bu i learned my lesson and will definitely
upgrade to gel food coloring next time.
i did use raspberry juice to reduce the red food coloring a little.
 i put the guacamole back into the avocado skins
so that they could be carried around.
the vases/candle holders are just glass cylinders
with streamers wrapped around.
{taco shell bunting}
we got a taco salad bar catered from moe's southwest grill.
it was really fun and came with those yummy taco shell bowls.
but we also wanted to offer traditional tacos as a choice.
isn't this a fun way to have the taco shells out?!
these napkins from target were perfect.
they have a really cute line of summer entertaining dishes
and accessories.
 {chips and dip sombrero}
funny right?!
i got the sombrero for less than $4 at party city.
it worked perfectly with a small glass bowl.
 {tissue bunting}
another easy/cheap decoration.
i bought tissue paper at target ($1.99 each)
the pink and orange came together so i only needed 2 packs.
using the folds that were already in the tissue,
i cut them into smaller pennants.
before hanging, i cut the slits.
i hung the string first and then just draped the pennants over.
(i doubled up the tissue pennants)
the party store had a kit for doing this but it was almost $10.
