st. patricks day

i love to use the kids' handprints to make things.
i'm happy that i'll have a keepsake like this to look at every year!
i bought 3 wooden circles at hobby lobby.
i covered them with scrapbook paper, used paint for the handprints and then drew the shamrock on with a brown sharpie.  i then used mod podge, sanded the edges and used distress ink around the edges.  next, i hot glued the circles to ribbon and added stickers.

ella had to make a leprechaun trap for school, so we decided to make one for delaney at home too.  the leprechauns were too tricky and got away, but they made a big mess and left us a treasure to find!

above and below you can see the leg warmers i made using women's knee socks.
this was so easy and i think they look so cute.
at target you can get knee socks for $2-$5!
i learned how to do it from:  http://sewingdork.blogspot.com/2009/10/diy-legwarmers-and-giveaway.html
(his shirt says "I'm a McCutie"!)

we also made rainbow cupcakes topped with a whip cream cloud.
i saw this idea in family fun magazine, but also saw the directions here:

powder room makeover... amazing what a little paint can do!

so this is our powder "room".
when we looked at the house this was almost a deal breaker.
you can actually sit on the toilet and wash your hands at the same time, so it's really a time saver.
the previous owners were big birdhouse fans, which is wonderful.
but not my favorite!
when we (someday) remodel the house this will become a hallway so we didn't want to put much money or effort into it.  so i decided to paint over everything!

there was even wallpaper on the windowsill and inside the soapdish thingy!

first i primed over all of the tile and wallpaper.
if you try this yourself, i would've sanded over all of the tile after the priming because the brush stokes showed through the paint in some areas when i was done.
and here is the after:
ta da!

those are metal flower kissing balls in the soapdishes above, because who uses real soap anymore?

this was the light fixture that was already here!  i never realized it was so pretty!
here's a close up of the tile
and here's my butterfly art from my last post

i think it's a pretty big change!

butterfly art

i'm redoing our "powder room" and in my next post with the before and after you will see how calling this a room is very generous.  i wanted something light and airy over the toilet and couldn't find anything i liked so i decide to see what i could do on my own.
my supplies were: a canvas, burlap, and scrapbook paper

i had seen this tutorial on how to make 3D butterflies
http://www.maryjanesandgaloshes.com/2010/02/3d-butterflies.html
so i made those and they turned out great.
i stapled the burlap over the canvas and hot glued the butterflies on.
